Degree Program Timeline Requirements
- Undergraduate program
NTU's Undergraduate programs are to be completed within 4 years, except for the Department of Medicine, which is 6 years plus one year of practicum, the Department of Dentistry, which is 5 years plus one year of practicum and the department of Veterinary Medicine, which is 5 years. The minimum credit hour requirements for graduation are 128 credit hours for all students of the 4-year program. For students of the 5-year program and above, the minimum credit hour requirements for graduation are higher according to the different study periods. The above-mentioned minimum credit hour requirements for graduation do not include Physical Education credit hours.
Graduation requirements
Students enrolled in the 2006~2007 academic year or before have a total of 18 general required credit hours (which include Chinese, English/Foreign Language, History, Constitution and Civil Education), 12 liberal education credit hours, Advanced English Program I and II, Volunteer Service I, II and III, Physical Education I, II, III and IV, and other courses required by their major departments.
Students enrolled in the 2007 academic year or after have a total of 12 general required credit hours (Chinese, English/Foreign Language), 18 liberal education credit hours, Advanced English Program I and II, Volunteer Service I, II and III, Physical Education I, II, III and IV, and other courses required by their major departments.
In addition, students of undergraduate program beginning from the second year up to the highest year level can apply for a minor or a second major. (Students extending their study periods cannot apply for a minor or a second major). Students with a minor must complete all credit hours required by their minor departments (at least 20 credit hours). Students with a second major must complete all the required courses and elective courses appointed by the department of their second major.
- Master's Program
NTU's Master's programs are to be completed within 1 to 4 years. Master's students who have completed more than one semester of study and 24 credit hours can apply for degree examination.
- Ph.D. Program
NTU's Ph.D programs are to be completed within 2 to 7 years. Ph.D. students who have completed more than 3 semesters of study with at least 18 credit hours completed must pass the qualifying exam in order to apply for degree examination. Direct Ph.D. students must pass the qualifying exam after one year of Master's program and must have completed more than 3 semesters of their Ph.D. programs, with at least 30 credit hours completed (includes credit hours completed during Master's program), in order to apply for degree examination.
